One of the largest costs that London Search and Rescue incurs yearly is outfitting our searchers. Our
uniform is a vital piece of equipment and is important to uphold the professionalism that London Police
Services and the OPP expect from us.

The funds provided through the Sponsor-A-Searcher are used to maintain existing uniforms and purchase new uniforms. In addition to presenting a professional image of the team, standardized uniforms allow for the easy recognition and identification of LSAR volunteers with other services that we collaborate with, and members of the public. Easily identifiable uniforms items help to provide safety to members of the team by providing high visibility markings, protection from the elements during searches and helps our team leaders maintain group cohesion of the unit during active searches. These aspects mean search results can be better gauged and standards maintained. It also helps to differentiate LSAR members from members of the associated police force. This helps us gain compliance from members of the community to search their property where distrust of the police force exists. During door to door searches our uniform is invaluable in securing the assistance of members of the public when conducting door to door interviews during a search or in gaining compliance during an emergency. Lastly our uniform provides a strong morale boost by connecting individual members of the team to one another which provides strong motivation to members to attend searches in inclement weather and in the middle of the night.

On larger searches, when the police request assistance from members of the public, having LSAR members easily identified by uniform ensures search operations remain structured and the public can easily seek trained experts when needed as we carry radios, first aid kits, and GPS devices.
